Q
How can Tegaderm
/Waterproof Strips & Tattoos be microporous and breathable yet still
remain waterproof?
A
Water particles are larger than air particles and as such are unable to pass through the tiny holes
in these dressings.
Q
I don’t like the sight of looking at the wound through a transparent dressing such as
Tegaderm
. What should I do?
A
Instead, you may use a Tegaderm
+Pad dressing or a Waterproof Strip dressing which has a non-stick
pad that covers the wound. Alternatively, Tattoos are a fun way for both big and little kids to forget their
wounds! You can also use a No Hurt Wrap (Coban
LF Self-Adherent Wrap) bandage to wrap over
the dressing.
Q
Why are the 3M Nexcare
film dressings (Tegaderm
, Waterproof Strips and Tattoos) a
better solution than traditional wound coverings and strips?
A
Film dressings create an enhanced healing environment which blocks out water, dirt and bacteria whilst
allowing excess fluid to vapourise. This moist wound healing allows for faster healing and less dressing
changes – improving healing time and customer satisfaction.
Q
How do I apply Nexcare
Wound Strips?
A
1. Clean wound thoroughly
2. Pull wrapper apart
3. Grasp end tab and peel bandage off wrapper without touching the sterile pad
4. Apply to wound, pressing firmly (around the edges not the wound bed); strip will not stick if repositioned
5. Remove paper frames at openings once strip is applied.
Q
How can I help a bandage or wound dressing stick to my skin better?
A
After you have washed the wound area, pat the area around the wound dry before applying the bandage or
wound dressing. After it’s on, avoid rubbing the bandage or dressing or exposing it more than necessary to
any liquids.
Q
How do I remove a bandage/tape that will not release easily from the skin?
A
If a bandage is not easily releasing avoid pulling on the bandage, instead work a little baby oil or cooking
oil into the adhesive to help the bandage release from the skin. Or use ice (covered with a paper towel) for
5 minutes or less. Ice will make the adhesive brittle, which may cause it to release.
Q
I have fragile skin and I am worried about taping. What should I use?
A
To secure a dressing, use either Silicone Sensitive Skin Tape or Micropore
Gentle Paper Tape as they are
very gentle, breathable tapes. However, if you wish to avoid taping altogether, you can substitute with a No
Hurt Wrap (Coban
LF Self-Adherent Wrap) bandage, which has no adhesive and will not stick to the skin.
