While a safety incident can happen in a moment and in any workplace, a moment’s forethought can prevent harm.
This year, during National Safe Work Month, commit to taking a safety moment every day in your workplace. This could be as simple as spending five minutes every morning talking with your team about the hazards and risks in your workplace, and how to prevent harm.
During National Safe Work Month learn more about slips, trips and falls, a moment is all it takes.
Did you know that each year slips, trips and falls result in thousands of preventable injuries in the workplace? In 2015 -2016 they accounted for 23% of serious claims of injury or disease and lost time of 6.2 working weeks*. The most common are musculoskeletal injuries, cuts, bruises, fractures and dislocations, but more serious injuries can also occur.
Slips, trips and falls can happen in any workplace. A person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) must manage health and safety risks associated with slips, trips and falls by eliminating the risk so far as is reasonably practicable. If that is not possible, you must minimise risks so far as is reasonably practicable.
Are you aware of slip, trip and fall risks and hazards in your workplace or work area? Have these hazards and risks been assessed and corrective actions put in place? During National Safe Work Month why not take a safety moment and find out what causes a slip, trip or fall hazard in your workplace, and what you can do to stop these incidents occurring.
