Figure 1.
Mark margin and trim excess.
Mark the gingival margin and trim the excess using a bur or Sof-Lex disc.
|
|

Figure 2.
Contour and crimp.
The micro-glass fiber content of the polycarbonate crown allows for contouring and crimping adjustments.
|

Figure 3.
Labio-lingual adjustment.
If the crown is too wide labio-lingually, cut a small triangular section out of each
proximal area.
|
|

Figure 4.
Then squeeze the crown to collapse it slightly in the labio-lingual dimension.
|

Figure 5.
Add acrylic.
Add a cold cure acrylic liner to fill the labio-lingual separations and weld the crown into an integral unit. Use 3M™ ESPE™ Sof-Lex™ Discs to remove excess acrylic. Note: Do not mix the acrylic in the crown; instead, mix in a dappen dish.
|
|

Figure 6.
Load acrylic.
Mix a cold cure acrylic and carefully load the polycarbonate crown.
|

Figure 7.
Glossy/matte.
Wait for the acrylic surface to lose its glossy appearance. When you see a matte satin surface, seat the
crown on the preparation.
|
|

Figure 8.
Seat crown.
Seat the crown on a moistened prep. Remove excess acrylic with a scaler or explorer tip while the acrylic
is doughy. Remove the crown repeatedly and lightly rinse the surface of the acrylic with warm water each
time it is seated.
|

Figure 9.
Remove and trim.
After the acrylic is polymerised, remove the crown and trim the excess acrylic with a 3M™ ESPE™ Sof-Lex Contouring and Polishing Disc or Finishing Bur.
|
|

Figure 10.
Load cement.
Load the crown with polycarboxylate cement, or a luting material such as 3M™ ESPE™ RelyX™ Luting Plus Cement, and seat the crown on the preparation. The cement choice depends upon the length of time the temporary crown will be in place.
|

Figure 11.
Adjust occlusion.
Check the occlusion and adjust if necessary. Finish and polish the restoration. The acrylic liner
in the polycarbonate crown provides additional durability of the provisional restoration.
It also offers greater flexibility in adaptation of the gingival margins.

Figure 13.
This slide illustrates an example of long term coverage of an existing but failing
composite restoration by using an acrylic lined 3M™ ESPE™ polycarbonate crown.
