Coding

Accuracy matters.

Clinical coders within public and private hospitals classify the clinical documentation contained within the hospital medical records utilising ICD-10-AM/ACHI codes. These codes are then used for research, planning and reimbursement. Accurate and complete coding helps improve patient safety and quality of care, and leads to more appropriate reimbursement that reflects the complexity of care that was provided during the patient’s stay.
Accurate coding can also improve hospital management as the data is often used to identify and report on national health initiative clinical indicators, to inform hospital planning decisions and in the benchmarking of hospital performance.
