    Chronic Oedema / Lymphoedema Management

    14 Results
    • Chronic oedema can occur at any age but is most prevalent in those aged over 65 years due to changes in the lymphatics caused by chronic venous disease, heart disease, orthopaedic surgery, dependency, immobility and infection. (Moffatt et al, 2003).

Lymphoedema is a swelling that develops as a result of an impaired lymphatic system. This may be as a result of the lymphatic system not developing properly or through damage or trauma. Lymphoedema can occur anywhere in the body, at multiple sites or localised.

3M has developed a system to help improve lives by effectively reducing oedema, allowing mobility and reducing pain.

    3M™ Coban™ 2 Layer Compression System

    • Extensive research, design and testing led 3M scientists to develop 3M™ Coban™ 2 Compression System—a breakthrough in compression bandaging with the potential to change the practice of lymphoedema intensive therapy.

Until now, no one would have believed that two thin layers of compression bandages could provide clinically effective volume reduction without the bulk of traditional reusable bandages, significant lower overall cost of care as a result of twice-weekly application , improved patient comfort, mobility and function enabling patients to carry on with everyday life.

Living with Lymphoedema and Chronic Oedema

Lymphoedema is a chronic condition resulting from congenital defects or secondary damage due to surgical disruption, radiation, or trauma to the lymphatic system.

3M has developed a system to help improve lives by effectively reducing oedema, allowing mobility and reducing pain.

    • If you or someone you know are dealing with chronic swelling (Oedema), compression therapy and keeping active will help to reduce the swelling. But if you have been treated with traditional multi-layer compression bandages, you know that they can be bulky, stiff, hot, and need to be re-applied daily.

    • 3M™ Coban™ 2 Layer Compression Systems are indicated for therapeutic compression in the treatment of conditions such as venous leg ulcers and Lymphoedema.

3M™ Coban™ 2 Layer Compression Systems are so thin and flexible; you can wear normal shoes and clothes and return to your regular activities.

    • The 3M™ Coban™ 2 Layer Compression Systems combine a layer of soft polyurethane foam with a cohesive compression bandage.

After application the two layers cohere to each other and reduce slippage during wear. This compression system is intended for single use only and may be worn up to seven days.
