Taping Techniques

There is a number of different basic taping techniques

Anchor - used to provide a firm base to attach other tapes to

Stirrup - vertical 'U' shaped piece of tape supporting either side of the joint

Spur - horizontal piece of tape that holds the stirrup in place

Basket weave - Stirrups and spurs in a half overlapping layer to build a pattern

Locking straps - Short circular tapes to cover the basket weave

Figure of Six - piece of tape to provide additional support on one side of the joint. Starts as a stirrup then crosses to form a six

Interlocking half sixes - Overlapping sixes to provide even more support on one side of the joint

a) Half heel lock - Rigid tape applied over the finished tape procedure to firmly lock the joint

b) First heel lock - piece of tape makes a 'U' to lock one side of the heel

c) Second half heel lock - opposite the first, supporting the other side of the heel

a) Figure of eight bandage - Use with Coban™ in the RICER procedure

b) Figure of eight - Can also be done using elastic adhesive bandage

10) Spica- This is a repeated figure eight mostly for the thumb or knee
