Taping Techniques
There is a number of different
basic taping techniques
1 Anchor - used to provide
a firm base to attach other tapes to
2 Stirrup - vertical 'U'
shaped piece of tape supporting either side of the joint
3 Spur - horizontal piece
of tape that holds the stirrup in place
4 Basket weave - Stirrups
and spurs in a half overlapping layer to build a pattern

5 Locking straps - Short
circular tapes to cover the basket weave
6 Figure of Six - piece
of tape to provide additional support on one side of the
joint. Starts as a stirrup then crosses to form a six
7 Interlocking half sixes
- Overlapping sixes to provide even more support on one
side of the joint
8a) Half heel lock - Rigid
tape applied over the finished tape procedure to firmly
lock the joint
8b) First heel lock - piece
of tape makes a 'U' to lock one side of the heel
8c) Second half heel lock
- opposite the first, supporting the other side of the
heel
9a) Figure of eight bandage
- Use with Coban in the RICER procedure
9b) Figure of eight - Can
also be done using elastic adhesive bandage
10) Spica- This is a repeated
figure eight mostly for the thumb or knee
