On
November 27, 2000 the Federal Government unveiled their Roads to Recovery
Initiative. This program is a $1.6 billion boost to Australia's road
network with a focus on the repair and maintenance of local roads. Of
that $1.6 billion, $1.2 billion will be distributed directly to local
government for local road construction and repair, with the remaining
$400 million being devoted to Roads of National Importance and National
Highways.
The Federal Government defines a road as:- "... including any of the
following associated with a road:
- a traffic sign
- traffic control
equipment
- street lighting
equipment
- a vehicular ferry
- a bridge or tunnel,
including a bridge or tunnel for the use of pedestrians, and
- a path for the
use of persons riding bicycles."
Included in the guidelines of this Act, local
councils are required to erect signs at the end of each work site when
work begins (or at the beginning and end of a works site when the work
site is long), and for them to be maintained in that position for two
years after the program has been completed.
3M Scotchlite Reflective Sheetings are suitable for use on
these signs.
See the Where to Buy page for local recommended
sign manufactuers.
